My Beginner's Journal

Today was the beginning of week 2 in my 5x5 programme. Week 1 went according to plan and had no issues today.

Squat 5x5 - 27.5kg
Overhead Press 5x5 - 22.5kg
Deadlift 1x5 - 45kg

Been looking through some of the other journals on here and must admit that my workouts looks mighty weedy compared with them, but I guess we all had to start somewhere. I look forward to reporting my progress here and would welcome any encouragement and advice.

Old man in (serious) training???

Well, promised to start with a training journal, it won´t be an ordinary one, will reflect on feelings during training, possible development, downsides and aches... My training seems to be kinda unorthodox, at least when I compare it to others training in the gyms where I train.
Anyway, will try to make it worthwhile reading for you guys, won´t focus so much on weights, merely on feeling and transitions I do when something don´t seem to work. And all you "young guns" reading my journal, remember that my age already sets limits for my preformances...
And in my defence I have to say, try to bear with my english-skills, not always the best or right words choosen, or correctly spelled, I´M from FINLAND !!!

So, tomorrow this attempt on putting my training on paper/computer starts...

-Mikki-

ps. if you don´t understand something or wonder about things I do, feel free to ask...

Britt's Journal

Hello, I'm new here and this is my first post. I am starting a journal.

I've been doing this workout for a while, but I am changing it starting today to be modeled after the Reg Park 5x5 routine. so what i have listed is the new modification.

4 workout days per week, the days off vary depending on schedule, but never more than 2 days on in a row.

The first two sets of five will be used as warm-up sets. The first set of five will be about 60% of working weight, and the second set of five would be about 80%. After that it will be 3 sets of 5 at working weight for the main exercises. In addition, to add more wieght, I'll be starting again at 30 pounds less than what I can do for 5 reps and work back up. when I can do 3 sets of 5 working at the same weight, 5 pounds will be added the next week. The assistance exercises are as listed for reps and sets.

Day 1:
Sumo DL:
Wide grip pullups: as many reps as possible for 3 sets
Curls: 3 sets of 8-10 reps

Day 2:
Flat bench
Incline Bench
Close Grip Bench Press

Day 3:
Squats
bent over row
shrugs

day 4:
Seated OR standing OH press
rear delt row
side lateral raise

Johns's over 50 bodybuilding log

I started training in 1974 at at Ski's gym gym in Escondido, Ca. This was the same gym that Steve Reeves used and we trained along side each other for a few years. My other influence was Ralph Kroger who invited me to his El Cajon gym and taught me how to perform the each exercise properly. I was pretty serious and made some pretty good gains in those days. I worked out until about 1980 and then lost interest. Now I've been back to the iron for a few years now and have made some steady improvments despite having some shoulder and low back problems. I started at 265 lbs and now I'm right at 220 with maybe another 20 or so to go. My plan is to keep the weights fairly light, use perfect form and work quickly with minimal rest periods. My goals are to get lean and look good. I'll let the mirror be my judge. If you have any advice, please feel free to comment!

ILoveLifting's quest for 1200 Raw!!

My routine will vary from time to time, but will always involve the big 4 (sq,dl,ohp, bch) in some way, shape or form. I'm not one for bells and whistles or training in any other way than the style I love: low rep, hard and heavy If there's a magical system out there that will add tons to my 'total' overnight, I could give two sh!ts. If it's not low rep an insanely heavy, **** it, it isn't for me!

weight/heigh - 210/5'10 about 17%bf (also, i don't give a **** about abs, i'll worry about those when i've reached my genetic potential.Seriously)

Current maxes - bench 270,deadlift 385,squat 365
Current routine -
monday-sq/bch
tuesday-grow
wed-clean press/bb shrugs
thur-grow
fri-d/l/inclined bb press
sat-grow
sun-repeat

You've probably already figured out i'm not much for isolation moves. I'll do the bear minimum(side/rear delts, rows, hams and.....hmmmmmmm,thats it). My take on isolations is, if time in gym and recovery time permit, then have at 'em.

Most of my work will be done with 80-90%intensity and only going 2 reps near failure. Failure will be avoided at all cost. My goal is total poundage lifted.

Thanks for the oportunity guys. I'm sure I missed a ton of sh*t, but i'll fill in the blanks as i go.

I am new to this site, but not new to lifting. I have been lifting on and off since i turned 15 but only really began training with a purpose about 2 years ago. I am 23, as of April 27, and weigh about 212. I am going to compete in my first powerlifting meet in June, the WABDL in Lansing Michigan. I actually have been lifting with another lifter from this site Ray, for the last couple weeks.

Thought yesterday was gonna be a no-lift day as i crashed extremely hard on a BMX bike on Thursday and have road burn all over and an extremely sprained wrist but still hit my lifts, it would of been hard not to with Ray and Steve pushing me. Thought of Doug Young lifting with broken ribs and grinded it out.

Deadlifts: No Belt/Overhand Grip: 135x5, 135x5, 225x5, 335x5, 375x3
