Born 1 June 1953 in Los Angeles, California. Later began weight training and entered her first ever bodybuilding contest in 1979 and won. She would later retire from competing that same year. She continued to promote women's bodybuilding by appearing in magazines, on TV and writing the book "Lisa Lyon’s Body Magic". She would also model for various Fine Art Photographers such as Robert Mapplethorpe and a lot of her photos can be seen in the book "Lady: Lisa Lyon". Lyon appeared in 'Playboy magazine' in Oct. 1980 and was regarded as the first female bodybuilder to appear in 'Playboy'. However, she was actually predated by stripper and bodybuilder Kellie Everts, who appeared in a May 1977 pictorial called "Humping Iron". She was inducted into the IFBB Hall of Fame in 2000 for being a one-woman media-relations activist on behalf of the sport and Elevating bodybuilding to the level of fine art.© Strength-Oldschool.com
